The school is in Laini Saba Location in Kibera, one of the biggest slums dwelling in Africa. It is situated next to the Kibera- AMREF hospital about 500mts from Ngummo Bus terminus.1.1 BACKGROUND
The school was started in the year 2000. Unlike most of the schools in this area, the pioneers thought it wise to start with Form ones only. Hence the first candidates in the school sat for their KCSE examination in the year 2003. Missionary John Lee of Glory Ministries-Kenya set up the temporary structures in the school.
Since 2010, the school has been managed by a Board of Directors from the Local community comprising of five members. The administration of the school has also changed hands and this has given some of the former students the opportunity to give back to the society.
Thousands of community members and beyond have acquired their education under the school facilities; some passed their national exams and progressed to their higher education in univesities and colleges. Others have through much effort acquired technical/ vocational skills through different trainings.
1.2 SCHOOL MOTTO
Being a school with a Christian foundation, the school Motto was chosen as EXELLENCE FOR GLORY. The school encourages students to aim higher for excellence to the glory of God. We aim at preparing the students academically, socially and spiritually.
1.3 SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
Academically, the school enjoys a superior performance compared to most other schools in Kibera. The following is a summary of the best performed candidates over the years
2003 - 2B (aggregate)
2004 -4 C+
2005 – 1B+ (joined university of Nairobi)
1B (joined Strathmore college)
2006 -2B (To join public universities)2007- 1B+ 1B (To join public) universities
2008- 1 B , 1 B- (To join public) universities
Currently the school has a total number of 216 students :- 116 boys and 97 girls. The post-election violence and the free/ subsidized secondary education programme implemented in the country adversely affected the student population. however, a noticeable growth has been evident across the years.
1.5 MEMBERS OF STAFF
There are 11 members of the teaching staff and 6 subordinate staff. All of our teachers are graduates from Universities and teacher training colleges. There are 4 in the Science Department, 4 in the Languages Department and 3 in the Humanities Department.
1.6 CHALLENGES FACING THE SCHOOL
Situated within the slum, the school faces many challenges especially on the area of finances. This has made it very difficult to implement contemporary programs like the Information Technology (IT) among others. Members of the teaching staff also need a lot of training in Information Technology and its use in the teaching process.
The subjects taught in the school include: English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, C.R.E, Agriculture, Business Studies , and Computer Studies.
We appeal to well –wishers to come up and support the school. Our most urgent need is support in our computer project, school library and science laboratory. We already have a secure computer room but we are in need of furniture and more computers so as to serve the students better. Additional learning materials as well as laboratory equipment are needed to take care of the rising school population for effective learning and improved academic performance.
Thank you. MAY THE ALMIGHTY GOD BLESS YOU
